Robotic arm helps in rehabilitating arm use after stroke

Many stroke survivors experience weakness or complete paralysis in one arm, often requiring a strenuous rehabilitation program in a stroke rehab or physiotherapy center.

Rehabilitation of an arm or a leg often includes the use of machines specifically designed to help the body and brain regain the connections that were broken due to the stroke. Over two decades ago, scientists and engineers developed a mechanical arm that allows the patient to use his/her own arm without the pressure of the gravity — and when connected to different games, specifically made for arm mobility recovery and this machine, the brain and arm are forced to work together to achieve the goals of the game.

The video below showcases this technology and how it’s used in a physiotherapy and recovery setting.
